If you are between the ages of 14 years 9 months and 17, Louisiana law requires the 38-Hour Driver Education Course (30 hours classroom + 8 hours behind-the-wheel). If you are 18 or older and seeking your first Louisiana driver's license, the state requires the 14-Hour Pre-Licensing Course (6 hours classroom + 8 hours behind-the-wheel). For licensed drivers seeking hazard awareness, our 4-Hour Defensive Driving course details will be announced once finalized.
The 38-Hour course is designed for younger learners (under 18) and includes 30 classroom hours and 8 hours of private in-car instruction. The 14-Hour course is an accelerated curriculum designed specifically for adult beginners (18 and older), consisting of 6 hours of classroom theory and 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training.
For the 38-Hour course, students must be at least 14 years and 9 months old to begin the classroom portion and at least 15 years old to complete behind-the-wheel instruction. For the 14-Hour course, students must be at least 18 years old. All age criteria are subject to Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles regulations.
